THE WAY WE MOVE

CHANNEL 4 & THIS GIRL CAN

PRODUCTION: 4STUDIO

Episode 1 of this YouTube series for Channel 4 and This Girl Can — an organisation dedicated to helping women from all backgrounds get active in whatever way works for them. This episode introduces three Black women proudly taking up space and finding community through sport. I was lead editor on this episode, and also designed and animated the GFX across the series. A real pleasure working with a brilliant team on this one!

WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BEAT THE ODDS?

BBC IDEAS & THE UNIVERSITY OF OXFORD

PRODUCTION: JIST

A self-reflective short doc for BBC Ideas led by broadcaster and poet Lemn Sissay ruminating on his complicated childhood. The narrative is guided by the University of Oxford's research into unequal opportunities. I edited, graded and designed the frames for animation. Lily Freeston was producer-director and Euan at Kord with the sound mix.

WHY WHISKERS ARE
EXTRAORDINARY

BBC IDEAS & THE ROYAL SOCIETY

PRODUCTION: JIST

Another fun BBC Ideas project – this is a playful  exploration of all things whiskers featuring some super cute porcupines. I edited, graded and worked with James Kuwamura on the design. Raynor Bloom producer-director.

FOUR  AKKADIAN SECRETS UNCOVERED

BBC IDEAS & THE OPEN UNIVERSITY

PRODUCTION: JIST

Three academics explain the significance of decoding clay tablets written by the Akkadians over 5000 years ago. Like with anything contributor-led, this was a bit of a puzzle itself to weave together. I shot this, edited and graded it. Kord again with the mix.

RHS CITY SPACES: CLOUDSCAPE

RHS X THE CLOUD GARDENER

PRODUCTION: STANDBY PRODUCTIONS

We followed Jason Williams (aka The Cloud Gardener) on the build-up to his ambitious seven-garden installation at the inaugural RHS Urban Show. Rees Newnes shot, Simon Owen directed and I did all the post.

THE WEST PENNINE MOORS: TRAILER

LANCASHIRE WILDLIFE TRUST

PRODUCTION: STANDBY PRODUCTIONS

This is the trailer to a 10 minute film about the importance of preserving and restoring the beautiful West Pennine Moors. Commissioned by the Lancashire Wildlife Trust, this film looks at the landscape from the viewpoint of those that use it most. Another Standby special with Simon and Rees. I did all things post.

THE WEST PENNINE MOORS: MARJAN

LANCASHIRE WILDLIFE TRUST

PRODUCTION: STANDBY PRODUCTIONS

This is a cutdown from the full West Pennine Moors film. This one features Marjan Wouda, a Dutch artist based in Darwen, whose work is heavily inspired by the landscape around her.

THE WEST PENNINE MOORS: HELEN

LANCASHIRE WILDLIFE TRUST

PRODUCTION: STANDBY PRODUCTIONS

Helen runs the farm at Anglezarke. In this cutdown, she discusses the financial pressures of commercial farming, and speaks frankly about what incentives there are for farmers to pursue green initiatives, like the one she is taking part in.

THE WEST PENNINE MOORS: AMAN

LANCASHIRE WILDLIFE TRUST

PRODUCTION: STANDBY PRODUCTIONS

Aman moved to the UK following the revolution in Iran. He has since settled in the north of England, where he finds respite from his responsibilities as a full-time carer in walking to Darwen Tower.

WIGAN GREENHEART LANDSCAPE RECOVERY

LANCASHIRE WILDLIFE TRUST

PRODUCTION: STANDBY PRODUCTIONS

Written from the perspective of the land itself, this short promo doc for the Wigan Greenheart highlights nature’s resilience in the heart of a once-industrial region. Voiced by a member of the Landscape Recovery Project, and an authentic Wiganer at that. I did all the post again.

THE NUCLEAR DILEMMA

BBC IDEAS & THE OPEN UNIVERSITY

PRODUCTION: JIST

A little creative and editorial assistance provided on this one, but this is really all the great work of Adam Barr and James Kuwamura. You can still catch this on iPlayer I believe. But why would you? It's right there.

MIF21: SEA CHANGE

MANCHESTER INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL

PRODUCTION: JIST

One of many quick-turnaround films for MIF during an 18-day festival, for which Boris Charmatz's Sea Change was the big launch. This film goes behind the scenes to add a little context to what was a very ambitious (and completely nuts) piece of performance art in a post-pandemic world. Edit and camera by me.

MIF21: THE GLOBAL PLAYGROUND

MANCHESTER INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL

PRODUCTION: JIST

Another tight deadline, another shoot-and-edit job. I went down to film dress rehearsals and interviews with the creatives behind The Global Playground, a conceptual theatre piece that is just as hard to explain in this bio as it was for a 3 minute promo.

MIF21: CAPTIONING THE CITY

MANCHESTER INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL

PRODUCTION: JIST

This is probably my favourite film that we produced for MIF21. Working with not a lot (i.e. no contributors), we crafted a style in zero time that I think captures an introspective, slightly elegiac tone in Christine's art. I worked closely with Producer Alex Mannion-Jones at MIF on the concept, Jim at Jist nailed the design and I edited.

MIF21: POET SLASH ARTIST

MANCHESTER INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL

PRODUCTION: JIST

Curators Hans-Ulrich Obrist and Lemn Sissay take us on a guided tour of their exhibition Poet Slash Artist. This was another quick-turnaround project and totally unscripted to make this editor's job a little trickier.

THE MAKING OF THE
VENTILE MAC 3.0

PRIVATE WHITE V.C.

PRODUCTION: JIST

We made a wordless and weirdly cerebral film for Manchester menswear brand Private White. More specifically, for the process of making their Ventile Mac. I can't take any edit credit for this film though, that goes to the wonderful Chris Elliott, but I shot it and I like it all the same.

A LOVE LETTER TO UK TECH

TECH NATION

PRODUCTION: JIST

When Tech Nation called it a day in 2023, they asked Jist to dig through the archives to repurpose old interviews to make a part-retrospective, part-aspirational legacy film about the state of the UK tech scene. I edited.

NET ZERO: AGRICULTURE & CIRCULARITY

TECH NATION

PRODUCTION: JIST
